Sorry Ladies… I need to Rant !!!

I hope lady readers of this blog will not get offended…. but I HAVE to rant…  In fact I am sure you will empathise with me.. or the wife

OKAY…what is it with women and old clothes..why cant you let us men be ????

My favorite jubba, the one that I had carefully converted to a comfortable, threadbare night garment has been “retired”…. and no,  not gracefully…

I am on my way to the shower when I find the maid dusting the windows with a garment that looked familiar… on closer examination (of the cloth..of the cloth….okay?) I found that it was my trusted half sleeve jubba…

So I say “What the ****?” (on the inside) and then walk purposefully to the kitchen where the wife is pretending that nothing has happened…

“Yo..why have you given my jubba to the maid” I ask fiercely…

“I have bought you some new stuff..this one was worn and completely see through” was the reply.

“I like it that way.. It took me years to get it to that level”

“Well..its disgusting to wear such stuff” says the wife.

In the meantime the son has joined the conversation.. “Pappa shes thrown out your old T-Shirts as well”

I gasp… “Not the ones that I had torn the sleeves from??”

“Ya I threw them out as well… ” she says nonchalantly

“How would you like it if I threw out all your saris”  I threaten

“None of my sarees are torn”…

“Well maybe I’ll tear a few and THEN throw them” I counter

She ignores me.. son giggles… I hate it when he does that… I walk away promising revenge…

An hour later I hear a loud shout..stepping out of the shower, my son sees one of the “legs” of his old torn and see through track pants being useds as a floor wipe.. yippee !!!

Now whos giggling??? Serves him right….

  1. Sheesh! Men!! Get a grip. How can you wear old wornout clothes that show stuff that is NOT meant to be shown ;-). My vote is with your wife.

Same story in my house. Just add 1 more kid to the list of complainants!!!!!!!! X-)

  2. vijay
u seem to be attacked from all sides. this is bad certain things are very dear to heart and I am sure you will not be wearing anything that is indecent, we will have some attachemnt with things so we love to wear them or use them. it is not fair if that liberty is taken out

  4. ha ha!! Just the same situation happened a couple of days back at my house….but hubby stood ground and it didnt get converted into a mop…YET 😀
    LOL @ (of the cloth..of the cloth….okay?)

  5. I first hide such garments , pretend ignorance when questioned , then give it away as ‘mops’ to my maid !!
But severe protests and threatenings start as soon as garments go missing.
Luckily he doesnt read this blog !! 🙂
What is it with some who love threadbare garments ?
Arent they the same who flaunt shining cars and gadgets ??

  6. I have an old MTV t-shirt from college, which I wear at home. My wife hates it. She says the collars are torn and I look like someone from the street.
I did try winning the argument by saying that its kinda cool like worn our jeans etc. But it soon got demoted to the floor cleaning tool !!!!

  7. ““Well maybe I’ll tear a few and THEN throw them” I counter
That cracked me up completely! lol

Yeah, I know, I recently threw a bagload of his old shirts out. He’s anyway always complaining that I’ve “stolen” (no, he uses that word specifically) his shirts, when I didn’t touch his side. Now that am being blamed for something I didn’t do, I figured, why not do it and accept the blame anyway. Can’t hang me twice!
    Double jeopardy sorts 🙂

  8. I have very similar arguments with my wife… my jeans have been treated without any respect and gets washed so many times that its really a sacrilege. I completely agree with u on this rant.

  9. Hahaha! My then 2-yr old son had this favorite “olange t-shalt”, which looked nothing short of a ganji. Totally faded, threads coming out, one button gone, hem undone….and he insisted on wearing it at parties as well as bedtime alike, else you were in for a horrendous tantrum.

If you’re thinking “at least you can con a 2 year old into wearing what he wants”, let me turn your son into a 2 year old again.

I should show this blog to my husband; he can play “what-has-b’lore-turned-into” – “what-has-b’lore-turned-into” with you 😛

  10. I am hopelessly outvoted here.. where are all the guys? (other than the ones who’ve commented)..

@My3: For the record, I was not showing unshowable items
@girlslashwoman: Now that is harsh…But they are sooo comfortable…
@pranesh: Thanks for the support… its like shashti panchhe !!!
@Muser: after a few years you stop asking and hubby will stop standing his ground
@neela: That reminds me.. I need to get new car gadgets to flaunt ;-).. would love to get your husbands opinion…
@xylene: sorry to learn of the shirt’s “demotion”.. did you try to retrieve it?
    @rads: 😀 …. LOL
@vinay: unflinching support.. thank you sir
@gauri: ha ha.. I know the 2 yr old tantrum 😀 .. Would be great to discuss “what happened to my old Bangalore…”.. as my son says.. “Daaad those were ancient times”
    @sb: I know I can count on you.. 🙂

  11. That really hit the spot! My wife is constantly saying I look like a tramp and she takes me on “shopping” trips (clothes for herself, I am told) which begin with all the menswear departments. My standard operating procedure on shopping trips is to go along, stand outside the shop and read my FT/book/anything else to hand. But no, a half-hour later I’m hauled in to try on various shirts/trousers/jackets on the grounds that she is ashamed to be seen with me.

And this after 30 years of marriage (Jan 10th since you asked) and you’d have thought she would give up after three decades of living with a tramp.

And the strange thing is, after throwing a tantrum/I’ve got too many clothes/I can’t wear that colour etc I love the clothes she buys/makes me buy! Neither of us has learnt a thing after 30 years!

  12. Mr. Shankar! Phew thankgoodness, then there is hope for us all ;-)(that even after 30 years you guys won’t have learnt a thing ;-))

psVijay:Whatever I said is to be taken in the spirit of the article. I have the utmost respect for you and we are all just pulling your leg. Atleast all the regulars 🙂

  13. shaaks: Thank you for your support 🙂
@Uday Shankar: Happy Belated Anniversary… I am really impressed.. I think the tramp has his own charms 😉
@My3: Pleeeease .. no offence taken 😀 .. now in the context of the article “pulling my leg” assumes different proportions 😀

  14. hehehee…
*fortunately* none of my clothes are sent to the cleaning mop *yet*, (i know some of my clothes were didn’t even qualify for mop and had to be sent to trash), however i get commented on not using the new ones that I have piled up in the past several years. My brother bought few for me, my wife bought me few, her parents sent a few new ones and all are piled up in my closet. I ‘m with vijay. What’s wrong with wearing worn out clothes as long as they are washed, pressed and clean? At least it makes me feel young if I still wear a shirt that I bought in my college days. hehe 🙂

    @Veena: “seere harka” LOL!

  15. @Veena: LOL… “seere haraka” and afterward “kayyi muraka” 😀

@ramsblog: Finally some support.. the guys have been slow in commenting but I am grateful that theres some support…

NET RESULT: Looks like the ladies have their way !!!!

  16. haha! love this post.

I had this tshirt that i used to adore. Wore it for about 8-10 years before the hole on the shoulder became too prominent!

Dont they say Old is Gold . Applies to clothes as well.

  17. Same thing happens over here, Vijay. It just shows you that women are the same the world over. They just don’t appreciate that we men like to extract every last possible wear out of a garment … and then some.

Funny thing is though, when I check HER wardrobe she’s got stuff there she hasn’t worn in 20 years! Maybe I should grab some of it and use it to wash the car?

    Er, on second thoughts ….

  18. Vijay: Great post. Whew its the same story everywhere !!! We never tire of trying though. I wish my husband threw out those horrible boxers( and got into something else!!) before he goes to drop son off at the bus stop everyday! The only thing that has sometimes worked is when I offer to give them away (before they become “saarso battes”) .

And some cheer to you, he has been threatening me to convert all my Kanjivarams( which ofcourse have been unused for years) into cushion covers!

  19. @Amreekan: Worn is Torn seems to be the motto for clothes
@Ray: Please do keep us posted on what happens after (you wash the car that is)
@Nalini: Cushion covers.. now thats a novel idea… for the Kanjeevarams…

  20. An hour later I hear a loud shout..stepping out of the shower, my son sees one of the “legs” of his old torn and see through track pants being useds as a floor wipe.. yippee !!! …

    LOL

  21. I sulked for 3 days when my mom retired my old Juhi Chwala skirt(from premaloka days). My heart bled every time my maid mopped the floors with that pretty layered skirt. This was a long long time ago..but I understand your anger.

But now I am guilty of stealthily retiring my husband’s faded shirts..so…
