Am Back !!!

23 May

Bird Hits, Rains In Delhi, 5 Hour Delays later I am back in Bangalore. Landed in the old airport itself because the opening got postponed.

Back to Delhi next week. Hopefully will be able to use the new airport.

There was a sense of closure at the HAL Airport. Everyone was in “wind down” mode.

UNUSUALLY EMPTY ENTRY LOBBY (flight was full though)

MY LAST LANDING AT HAL (hazy pictures)

FINAL GOODBYE RIP HAL AIRPORT (unless the opening of the new one gets postponed again)

    Good Good Vijay 😉
    At this rate even I may arrive only at the HAL airport(mid-June) which would be closer to Koramangala and Gandhi Bazaar. Heh Heh Heh.

    @My3: A friend is flying out to Taiwan tomorrow and has booked his cab to the new airport… so they are accepting reservations… I think there are some talks to operate short haul flights out of HAL… but no one knows…

    Got to see some pics of new airport. Looks cool.. no different from any good international airports.

    Changi Airport and LA were the best I liked out of all that I have visited till now. I guess I will add the BIAL to the list.. hopefully 🙂

    finally it happened and virtually the airport was inagurated on 23rd may 2008 as the first flight landed at 10.20 pm or so. first light to take off was to singapore the same airindia flight which landed at 10.20 took with a different crew at 12.05
    so first landing was on 23rd and first take off was on 24th

    good to hear bengaLooru airport taking shape and getting into action. Looks like start the airlines landing/takeoff in phases (Air India, Indian Airlines, and gradually increase the traffic with others?)

    Hmmm… My friends husband just travelled from Madras to Bangalore. He left his house at 9:30 reached the airport around 10:30. Got on the flight at 11:30. Landed at12:30. Got his luggage in 40minutes and promptly got the volvo going to Koramangala. Then he sat on the bus for THREE hours due to traffic. He got to Koramangala at 4:30. He has decided to take the Shatabdi back to Madras!

    @xylene: lol.. wouldnt be surprised..
    @veena: Friend of mine who flew out of there had only nice things to say about it… there were some teething problems which are to be expected
    @pranesh: Finally happened
    @harsha:everyone I have talked to have only nice things to say about it.. but the traffic is still there…
    @ram: All Airlines are operating from there.. the old one is now a ghost town
    @my3: Correct.. people who have short haul flights do have this issue…more business for the railways 🙂

    orlando and tampa in florida are pretty good too – it all depends on your criteria for calling an airport good. both these (and i bet most in the usa and europe) have easy access to the city’s thoroughfares. did you not like sky harbor in phoenix (or am i gtting you mixed up with someone else)?

    mumbai (domestic) was pretty good when i was there a year or so ago – no wonder tourists voted it (then) the best in india.

    someone sure is missing a trick by not commissioning air services at the old airport – they could at least chopper over folks from bial, if nothing else.

    sky harbour in phx is a good one too.. As you said, easy access from city but not like the ‘WoW’ kind of one 🙂

    We in State College pride on getting to the airport within 10 minutes from anywhere in the county 🙂 😉
    But our population is 40,000 and 80,000 when University is in full session 🙂
