No more Good Times?

30 Dec

“Welcome to Kingfisher” slurs Vijay Mallya during the passenger announcements…. several balah blah blahs later he says something to the effect like “I have asked my staff to treat you as guests in my home”

Well…looks like home is getting a little frugal. The airline is apparently bleeding badly and cost cutting is on the anvil.

Coming back from Delhi last week (Christmas Eve), they ran out of food as they got to me…The guy next to me was not pleased at all “Waaat is this yaaar?” he said to the hostess “How come ki you have not planning properly? This is beri ieppicient” If it was Indian Airlines, he would have been plonked on the head… the Kingfisher one looked at him and smiled.. but behind that smile was a “You A**hole” look…my feelings exactly.

So is the much hyped industry being consumed by itself ?Everyone wanted to get into the Airline business a couple of years ago. Now everyone wants to get out…

As a friend said, “Next thing you know they’ll point you to a faucet and ask you to drink from it..”

    Look at the number of flights getting cancelled, and even the number of empty seats on flights that are flying…

    Hmmm… I’ve never flown in Kingfisher before… He actually says that before takeoff?? How lame is that!? I’m sure that’s the reason for the decline in airline business! That guy drawls in an accent so fake that you can pick it up off the lanes of National Market for a good bargain! 😀

    Ha Ha.. One more zoke to add.

    I get an email from Dr.Vijaya Mallya( 🙂

    Dear MS. VEENA

    As 2008 dawns to a close and 2009 beckons, I want to personally thank you for your continued patronage of Kingfisher Airlines.

    It was an exciting year for Kingfisher Airlines. We launched our international operations and introduced Kingfisher Red, a new class of service that will redefine low fare flying. As we enter 2009, we will continue to raise the bar on India’s only Five Star flying experience with innovative service offerings, and will be adding new international routes starting with direct flights from Mumbai to London, Singapore, Hong Kong.

    I am glad to inform you that Kingfisher Airlines now connects 70 destinations with 440 daily flights. I regularly receive feedback from valuable guests like you and want to thank you for your kind wishes, great ideas and suggestions on how we can offer you an even better journey with Kingfisher Airlines.

    Here’s raising a toast to this festive season and wishing you a very Happy New Year.

    Warm Regards,

    Dr. Vijay Mallya
    Chairman & CEO
    Kingfisher Airlines Limited

    Bah! Add Jet to this list then! They had run out of veggie trays by the time they got to my son and me!!!!

    How true! Airlines are bleeding badly. In the US the airline industry is in a horrible shape. They never serve food in the flights (except for some) and now some airlines have started charging for blankets, pillows, and checked in luggage!

    How cool is that!

    @pradeep: so true…
    @nikhil: oh hes right in your face as you board..he also mentions that all the attendants have been personally chosen by him.. I kid not
    @veena: Funny…I think food getting over is part of the innovation
    @My3: Kingfisher owns Jet now…
    @amreekan: I remember the mid/late 80’s when one could get a hot meal one a flight from Boston to New York… recently I have flown from SFO to Denver on pretzels and coke 😦

    And then still they expect you to pay 3k plus as some bullshit tax 😐

  8. Vijay January 20, 2009 at 3:27 am #

    @BlueMist: The 3k is so that Vijay Mallya can shoot more pics for his calendars
