Culture Culture

5 Nov

Ya ya… we are a multi-thousand year culture.. yada yada yada… bear with me…

Barack Obama wins the election and McCain concedes gracefully. He says that the entire country must help the new President.

“I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face,” McCain said before his supporters in Phoenix, Arizona.

Cut to India. Party 1 wins election against incumbent Party 2.

1. Party 2 accuses Party 1 of rigging and irregularities

2. Party 1 will open all kinds of investigations

3. Party 1 will stop all “development” projects of the previous government.

4. Losing party will hold Dharnas. Burn effigies of the election commissioner

5. People will defect to the winning side. Suddenly opposing principles dont seem too bad

Different Country. Different Culture. Something worth Emulating?

on the other hand, pettiness is more entertaining than hypocrisy. whom do you want on your evening news – Lalu or McCain? Let us be ourselves and milk the cow fully.

i really think you need to take the concession speech with a ton of salt, its a typical trait of being polite on the exterior. Its really for booking your seat for some plum posting in some commission(s)

all that is white is not milk and it is true that at least for outside world they show a much disciplined posture. but problems do exist there also. official announcement of results only on 6th jan 2009!!!!!! great country advanced country takes so much time to officiallly announce what is the issue? we are to be proud with our EVMs in place we have created history of sorts and rightly the karnataka high court judge said EVMs are PRIDE OF THE NATION WHILE DISMISSING AN ELECTION PETITION BY FORMER CONGRESS MP FROM BANGALORE NORTH

The official election for President of USA is by the electoral college, that takes place later. The elections now were actually for the ‘electoral college’, members of which then elect the president. Crossvoting does not happen usually though it not forbidden. Imagine what would happened in our country in such scenarios.

Our culture is centuries old and therefore it will take centuries for the problems to go, till then migrate, probably to the land of dreams (read USA). Even the pope doesn’t have hope, so learn to cope or just go and dope or better get the rope!

Yes, McCain’s speech was not only in the right spirit but seemed very genuine. I couldnt help but mention about it too.

Politics in America requires its contestants on losing to grin and bear it, they can’t go about bad mouthing who won, they’ll work harder on that by contesting next time in the same elections. In India, we are honest…just point blank frank and of course terrible at taking losing. Cricket and Politics is where we cry like babies.
