27 Jun

Sometime ago, Aditya had blogged about Vinay.. a friend of his who had AML ((Acute Myeloid Leukemia).

There was a ray of hope when he managed to find a donor. But that was not to be, as he succumbed to the disease on the 25th of June. Though I did not know him, I came to appreciate the grit shown by him and his ability to bring people together for a common cause – in this case, establishing a bone marrow registry for South Asians in the USA.

RIP Vinay… You are an inspiration.

Last summer when we went to LosAngeles and about to start to Vegas for our return flight, someone at a restaurant approached us to visit a school nearby for a bone marrow test to be a donor. I was going through some other medical issue, and we were also heading out from there, I didn’t make it to the event at that time. I feel guilty that I couldn’t do a little thing to give a test myself. I kept watching for a donor drive in our local area since then.
    Rest in Peace, Vinay.

OMG.. I was so glad to read sometime in Jan that the transplant went through fine etc., After the recent updates I was thinking that relapse was just like some minor thing, never thought this would take his life…

One thing is sure, I have never seen a person with such tremendous optimism(his blog updates, and the words ).. GOD should atleast have cared for the “huge efforts” put in with such high hopes!! They have done an excellent job of (its a revolution I must say) by creating the donor lists all over the world. Kudos to “The Team Vinay”…

I think the stem cell therapy would create a history and the therapy will be remembered as “The Vinay Therapy”….

    Rest in Peace…

Ram – if you go to SAMAR’s website (, you will find the drives they’re conducting in the US. If you follow their schedule, they’ll have a drive in your area sooner or later. Please register and encourage others you know to register so we have fewer cases like Vinay.
