When Humor crosses limits

28 Mar

In their quest for ratings, Radio and TV stations resort to spoofs and pranks on the unsuspecting public.

Heres an example. Theres a station that calls itself Big 92.7 FM in Bangalore. They have this guy calling people with random comments like… “I have someone here who say you stole a dog” or “I called you to find out what you have done for your country”…. stupid things like this… Theres on RJ “Deepu” who has this thing called “No Tension”…

In addition he is rude… I am amazed that people actually like it.. maybe its a generation thing… Its just a matter of time before he makes one of his calls to someone who will then come over to the station and toink him.

Humor is good but not at the expense of someone else. I’d like to see how this moron reacts to someone calling him up and talking in a boorish manner..

I hope his bosses realize that for every stupid call, they are losing listeners… and sponsors…

I have seen TV channels pull stupid stunts on unsuspecting people.. I am sure they can be more creative and less offensive…

You might say its humor but its not. Not when you try to make fools of people. Come on 92.7 BE CREATIVE !!!

same with those shows like MTV bakra etc.,
Not heard these FM offlate, some are really very gaLaaTa kind of shows!

    Indians are peevish.

Makes you wish for the days of one radio station (good old AIR), doesn’t it? Yeah, unfortunately, when you have private radio stations scrambling for ratings and ad money, there will always be companies that try to cater to the lowest common denominator.

Like you say, losing sponsors because of these stupid stunts will be the quickest way to make them stop. People should call the sponsors and let them know about it.

@Veena: MTV Bakra.. that’s another example..
@Lokesh: Peevish??? Meaning .. Lack of Humor?
@BPSK: 3 years ago there was one private FM station in Blore (not counting the still wonderfully inefficient Govt. one). Today there are probably 5-6 (or more)… The classiest show I have seen to date is the Candid Camera show.. good classy humor…

well.. i’ve heard his show many times and its not bad actually. Infact, i had nominated a friend of mine to be made into a bakara on Deepu’s show and at the end of it we all had a good laugh as i was on the other line listening to the whole thing. I’m also told that, he plays pranks only on people who are nominated by their friends or relatives and not some random soul.

I agree. But ppl love when someone else is at the wrong side of the humor.
In some regional channels, the bakra thing is irritating. They irritate some poor guy along the outskirts of the city for a long time that the locals crowd together to beat them up and they they cry out loud camera camera !!!!
Well in Kerala a group of channel guys got beaten up when they ran into a crowd and shouted ” tiger is coming !!!” Crowd ran screaming. But later when ppl came to know that it was another bakra they roughed them up !
their intention was to fool ppl but they got beaten up instead.
I think the tv guys deserved it.

@Manmohan: It seemed Random to me… I mean the guys who he called were really really ticked off… Normally if they are nominated the people who nominated them are with them (as you were)…

@xylene: Exactly !!!… Heres a true story.. the Kannada channel Udaya TV used to have this Bakra thing… one of their “victims” was a 15-16 year old who was on his way to an exam. These guys would not let him go and kept harassing him.. net result, the kid goes late to his exam and gets into trouble… the family then raised a hue and cry at the station.. if I am not mistaken a couple of the TV guys got thulped as well…subsequently the show was cancelled.

well. I have a totally different overtake of the prank shows. i feel that it makes you laugh which is gud cos people have by large forgot how to smile. hahah
and for the person who has been made bakra he will also have a gud laugh whenever he remembers about his experience.

at the end of the day its about bring smiles to someones face.

Mr vijay this is in response to the article which u have written and had caught the public eye for no reasons at all !
I think you realise that curiosity kills the cat thats what has happened in your case … you anticipated something on the radio and got back the reverse ! I think you never listen to national or international radio ! If you will ever listen to it then you would realise something about radio! Anyways ! TV and Radio are two different genre’s which basically aims at entertaining people that’s what happen’s if you have notice or heard any show the person on whom the prank has been played his/her kith or kin will be omnipresent in the background its a simple way to make someone feel special with a choke ! that’s creativity ! thinking out of the box !!! Well between all this you too proved to be creative as a geek ! well i’m serious wasn’t your article published in the geek peek column !!! now after all of this i feel you are proving the point of being a geek !!!! plz don’t watch the movie the revenge of the geeks to fight back ! just kidding ! next time i want to study every situation and the effort before you vent out words at anyone !!! nothing personal but i don’t think that moron was working anyway ! think about ! who was a moron !hmmmmmmm!!!! i know you got it ! now don’t react ! be happy certain words which fits someone else’s persona was rightfully used but unfortunately on someone else ! bravo ! for your efforts ! you have created a major social awareness ! my question is for what !!!! i don’t realise this point at all !!! kudos ! kep blogging ! have fun !!!!! i think you must b running for primeminister !!!!! hop u win !!!!!!!!!!!

    Milind with love
don’t worry my vote is dfinitely for you !

  11. Vijay April 2, 2008 at 3:31 am #

@Milind: Duhhhh?? The point is not about pranks.. its about creativity…

  12. milind iyer April 2, 2008 at 8:20 am #

now ! u are confused with things !! haven’t you heard the saying ” every odd idea of today is the most creative idea of them all ” by benjamin franklin !

creativity involves loads of people’s effort and hard work !!! so ! creativity quotient in a hardcore entertainment environment involves lots of research !!!!!!!!!

so, now you are complaining about creativity gone bad ! nah ! its you who are changing colors like the chameleon ! plz hang on to your comments !!! anyways any inerlinking of creativity through one show ! higlighting some organisation is just a tecnical way of manipulating your writing skills in bringing someone to bad eye ! probably your blind to the fact that u herald a different approach of looking into things !!!!!

remember ” think before you ink ”
in this case ” think before you type “!!!!!!!

    love milind iyer
    i’m liking this !
