Kumble “turns” 600

18 Jan

Fellow “Banashankrite” Anil Kumble became only the 3rd bowler after Warne and Murali to take 600 Wickets. Of course our TV Channels are vying with each other to congratulate Captain Kumble and singing paeans about how he has never been given the accolades he deserves.

One thing he can be proud of is that he carries himself with the dignity of a King. I think thats enough.

700 next? The odds are stacked against him in terms of age, but then you can never count him out. When he took 500 wickets, people said the same thing.

UPDATE: Nishanth Arora in his blog on IBN Live writes an open letter to the BCCI lamenting the fact that no one from the BCCI has seen it fit to congratulate Kumble on his achievement.

    Fellow Banashankari-iate? cool…

You know what ? for lot many questions in quiz, his name is a perfect answer. Like taking all 10 wickets in one innings, Indian taking highest wickets etc.,
It makes us feel proud too. Also the way he carries himself, quite humble….

    Wishes 🙂

Kumble is a very committed cricketer and has been always cool and humble.
so many times odds were against him but he has come back to the team simply on merits and delivered. he is the one who has won most no. of matches for india in the last decade.
It is a fitting that he got it when he was captian let the players dedicate this match to him by a well deserved win.
I agree age may come in his way of acheving next but the way he is going nothing can be ruled out.
    It is more special
c Dravid B Kumble in his 400.450 and now in 600
His world record for maximum no. caught and bowld got shadowed by his 600. this too he achieved when he got his 601 wicke c & b

I’m listening to Anil being interviewed by Peter Walsh on ABC radio right now.
Anil is clearly a very honourable and ethical man.
In the space of this five minute interview he has praised Adam Gilchrist, The Australian and Indian teams, the crowds around the country and the spirit in which most of the series was played.
He has also announced that this will be his last visit to Australia as a test cricketer.
He says he is very proud of his team although he is hurting about the final result.
Both Walsh and Kumble agree that Ishant Sharma is a player with a very long career in front of him.
The Australian crowds really took to Sharma and this has been acknowledged in this interview.
Anil returns home now as the Indian limited overs squad readies itself for action.

Thank You Anil for your efforts in Australia this season. The masterclass of wrist spin bowling was a joy to behold.
