Let the games begin… And End

30 Jul

Haneef is back. The poor guy was victimized…

However the drama now begins. Our politicians and media will be tripping over each other to do some serious “Thippe Saarsing”.

1. The media will have a field day. Every channel will have an “Exclusive” with Haneef (I often wonder how an interview could be exclusive if 3 channels carry it).  I heard that the neighbours have started to offer “bed and breakfast” services to the media 😉

2. The “tone” of the family will change from “The Australians treated him well” to “They mentally tortured him”.

3. A film will be made starring Salmaan Khan. This will win an award at one of the three hundred award ceremonies.

4. An offer will be made to Haneef to enter politics.

5. Our CM has offered him a job. He will meet him soon… boy if this is not playing to the vote banks, I dont know what is.

Then suddenly everyone will forget about Haneef and focus on the next big story.

Like they say in India, it takes two minutes to become a hero from zero and vice versa. Dr. Haneef, who had promised to talk to Indian media after his return, changed his mind midway and offered Channel 9 an exclusive interview in Australia, which made him richer by almost Rs 50 lakhs. He is back in Bangalore, and thanks to his minority tag, politics had taken over from the day one. CM Kumaraswamy has offered him a government job, and sooner the later all biggies from major political parties will visit him to offer their support. After sometime, Haneef might contest an election and go on to become a MLA. Life goes on till the media bumps into ‘another Haneef’.

PS: The million-dollar question is why did Dr. Haneef plan a trip to Bangalore just two days after the failed London terror attempt, and that too with a one-way ticket.

Kishor: The politicians are making a beeline for his house.. I didn’t know that he got paid 50 lacs for the interview… The million $ question .. alas will never be answered…

this is the way it goes in india. for as long as he is the limelight , the story is hot ..he’s in demand. the moment the spot light shifts. its gone. just gone.

not a big deal, have gotten so used to this kind of treatment. i love it that you said about the thippe saarsing! 😛

Really a good one. You could add this: Shilpa Shetty (oops..Dr. Shilpa Shetty) will carry out an ‘exclusive’ on realty big brother in UK !!!

    Good observations, Vijay.

The media here wasn’t like this. This media-hype and moving from one “hot” thing to the next is very American. With the amount of media competition now, I guess they have to succumb to all the antics too.

Kishor, about Haneef coming to Bangalore, well his wife was expecting to deliver wasn’t she? About the one-way part of it, I don’t know. But, I do get the feeling that he did not have a role in this whole issue. I could be TOTALLY wrong tho’.

@Sindhu.. as with all things… up up up and down they let you fall…
@Sash: Good thing that you corrected your mistake and addressed Shilps as Dr. Shilps..
@Chitra: Was right on the “tone”.. already hes talking about a conspiracy by the Ozzies… definitely the media is focussed on TRPs etc… by the way the other “alleged” (being politically correct here) terrorists’ house is about 5 streets away from my house… for a week all the media vans were parked in front… now.. theres no one… they are old news

I sure hope Salmaan Khan wins the national award in the “Best Actor” category…oh, that’s one guy who deserves the award and the damn award has eluded him!!!

  9. Prashanth M August 1, 2007 at 5:29 am #

And looks like Haneef is old news already… now all eyes (read it as cameras) are towards Sanjay Dutt…

  10. Vijay August 1, 2007 at 5:51 am #

@DS: He does deserve it.. just like his GF Katrina Kaif deserves best actress… (she made a statement during the Taj Mahal campaign saying.. “The Taj Mahal has been in India for years to come”…. alternatively the Haneef thing can become a Kannada Teleserial.. already some of them are losing steam after 500+ episodes…

@Prashanth: That is bad for Haneef’s lawyer… the guy was hoping to milk the publicity.. I think he came here so he can collect payment…. or else he’ll get the “Cheque is in the mail” routine..
