Shilpa Shetty – Boo Hoo

18 Jan

I am unable to comprehend the attention this whole racism thing with Shilpa Shetty is getting. Now I can understand if its something that happens in “normal” life. But this is happening in a reality show where she is reportedly being paid over Rs. 3 Crore. While the act itself is deplorable, does it really have to become an issue in Parliament? Don’t we have other burning issues?

The icing on the cake came yesterday from the TimesNow “News Channel” (I put News Channel in quotes because I consider it to be a tabloid TV channel). They were having a raging debate on the Shilpa Shetty deal and at the bottom they were flashing the news about a bomb explosion in Guwahati. Talk about priorities.

Oh ya, there was a picture in the Vijay Times about Shilpa Shetty fans burning an effigy in Patna. Guys get a life…

UPDATE: Check out another post on this subject by Adi on his site.

most of the news channels and media are doing this and it is sad. It is not good for that inddustry to make the issues like this to be given priority and the most important things getting back to minor coverage. Again I think this happens only in India.Vijay can throw light and others who have visited various countries can join him in posting their experiences for information of people like me
have a good day and today it is purandara dasara aradhane. I salute the great dasaru on behalf of all here

Well, well, well… Great minds think alike?! No, I am not referring to all the TV Channels, it is you and me! 🙂

Praneshachar, No it is not “only in India”. It is happening in India “only now”. It has started happening only ever since our channel choices went from less than 10 to more than 100. It has started happening only ever since papers such as Times of India, decided to replace subscribership over journalism as the key cornerstone for their business.
The US has always been very insular in its news coverage. Many Americans would not even know what is happening in another part of their own country let alone the world. Their news outlets focus exclusively on the sensational (and as local as possible) and not the truly news-worthy. Your neighbour’s cat stuck in a chimney for 3 hours would have far greater chance of making the headlines than the prime minster of the world’s biggest democracy.

Yes, what partha says is absolutely true.

While on a short stay at USA was amazed to see a 50 page newspaper but only with news of cat struck types and nothing positive or worthy while.

I was missing my deccan herald which would focus on local on goings but have a seperate section for international news…

Thumbs down to this commercial media ventures.

SB: Not really.. my view does not change… our so called leaders and media have other important issues to address rather than analyze stage managed crap to death… good for Shilpa… shes laughing her way to the bank, but do those idiots who went crazy on the street burning effigies get any of this prize money… I think not..
