South Thindis – Stay South of It

Decided to check out this place called “South Thindis” (not to be confused with another restaurant called South Indies in Indiranagar) over the weekend.

It was new…

I like new places because worst case the plates are new. Plus this guy was supposed to make some “traditional” stuff as well… Unfortunately it turned out to be yet another crowded fast food joint. Its not often that the son and I come back grumbling from eating out.

These days they all taste the same…same sambar, same vada, same chutney..maybe all of them have one large underground kitchen…

Anyway, my accompanying expert gave the place a B (which is strange since he gives most places an A)…I’ll give it an “A” for the get up and a “C” for the food..

The expert’s comment “We should have gone  to Vidyarthi Bhavan”

Location: On Kanakapura Rd (near Krishna Rao Park)

I am sure this is better than South Indies…. We checked out the new one on Infantry Road. Ambiance was pretty good… other than that i was not sure what the fuss was about. The portions are so small and everything is very pricey :D I would any day prefer the Darshinis to these boutique South Indian restaurants!

yeah.. If its not different from a regular ‘darshini’ then maybe its not worth it…

Or maybe.. ‘New Plates’ is a good enuf excuse to try it out.. :)

    Will check it out ..

    Cheers..!!

THANKS Vijay!! Yayyyyy back to food posts after a loooong time. Thanks Little N, for taking your dad to the eatery ;-) And this is walking distance for me. I will try it out. New plates is a good enough excuse for me to visit.

How do you rate the Adyar Anand Bhavan in the beginning of Gandhi Bazaar? I like their akki and raagi rottis and holige(too much ghee but heck I eat only half). But my brother says the Koramangala store is terrible.

To make up for this bad taste you need to take little N to VB :D to clear up his palate :-)

    • Vijay Says:

Yes Mytri was losing focus !!! :-)

Never been to the Adyar Ananda Bhavan..theres another one in Jayanagar where the old Shanti Theater used to be..

Ok..ok.. will go to VB..thanks for the reminder

Is there a shortage of restaurant names in Bangalore? I’m told “Herbs & Spice” is not to be confused with “Herbs & Spices,” and now this. Reminds me of copy cat city names in America like Salem, Geneva, etc.

    • Vijay Says:

Terri…maybe there is (a shortage of names)..in South Bangalore there are several idli places called SLV..every “stand and eat” fast food joint is a “Darshini” and “sit down and eat” fast food places are “Sagar” (Sukh Sagar, Shanti Sagar etc)…
LOL on Herbs and Spice(s)..did not know that..

      • My3 Says:

But wot a title Vijay Saar for your articlu ;-) Wonderful wonderful I say! I am coming to South only in less than a monthu.

    • some body Says:

i propose a name ‘busy idlee’ ;-) [to be pronounced 'bisi idli' of course]
