Ok all this time it was hero worship for Dhoni’s boys. Now our fickle media has turned on them. One idiotic channel was running a poll on whether Dhoni should remain captain while the sports editors were crying themselves hoarse with their take on the issue (I’d like to see them play).
Heres some advise for the media:
- India lost..they lost..any team can lose. Get that into your thick skulls.
- Stop pontificating and analyzing things to death. Its just a game.
- And please dont get former players to come in and comment. Most of the old buzzards are pissed that the current crop make more money than they do.
- A special request to Times Now TV… ask Boria Majumdar to stop shouting into the mike. We can hear him well.
- There are other things to worry about other than why India got beaten in T20. Focus on that !!
For instance focus on why Harsha Bhogale is wearing that ridiculous wig. That has to be more interesting. Is it a wig? Does it have a sponsor? Does he have different colors..will that solve the Kashmir issue? What effect will it have on global warming?
you guys are used to discussing such things anyway so this is right up your alley.
Give team India a break..these things happen…chill out and SHUT THE **** up.

But I totally agree with what you are trying to say.

Ha ha.. I was pretty pissed at the time..
June 16, 2009 at 6:33 am |
completely agree with the post – especially the harsha bogle bit – why was he wearing it? Did Shane Warne give hime suggestions?
so many interesting questions…
June 17, 2009 at 11:08 am |
Maybe Harsha’s stylist suggested it.. looks like coconut fiber..
June 16, 2009 at 7:04 am |
I truly agree with you… Dhoni actually tried some tact and it only failed… if in case they had won against England the media might have come applauding the strategy, but now they only blame Team India for the loss.
Media only provokes, just for sake of TRPs… nothing else…

Gururaj..exactly !!! it was a ploy that failed..
June 16, 2009 at 8:28 am |

Indian journalists are a bunch of jokers!

Vijay,
One thing is true, atleast media folks are shifted from the Melbourne thing to this cricket for their post mortem analysis:-)
Cricket is a sport .. Agree that it needs hradwork/determination/dedication to win. Not that Dhoni’s team never won any matches at all in past. Why do we expect them they “always” have to win ? (should not be like, avarenu sumne aadthaara, govt avarige awards, cash prizes kottilva?) and Ontop of it Dhoni present an apology to the whole Indians there.
Even otherwise, why do we mix this sport thing with emotions, Money, fame and patriotism?? Cricket star(not every sport mind you) in our country is another celebrity and the awards and the cash prizes given to them by different political parties/govt is not worthy.. Instead a soldier or the service people should be given such benefits to realise the worth of all these. or the people who loose their family/shelter due to natural calamities etc., Reminds me your post
http://bangaloreblues.wordpress.com/2008/09/29/pay-them/
I don’t know if these people take this as their profession or the way to earn money/fame along with other things.
Of course, Gavaskar and Kapil Dev time of cricketers were different and can’t do the comparisions..
Your point #3 holds good for the generations thing.
Eg.,people used to be so grateful to the organisation they worked(eg., our parents literally relied on their jobs(govt jobs) for all their financial needs for every damn thing – right from the home loans to any other advance, PF , Gratuity, pension that and this) and How do we work? literally follow this mantra “Don’t love your company but love your job, you never know when your company stops loving you”.. despite getting highest packages/benefits from the companies…
Same thing applies to even the cricketers
Sorry for the long comment!

Nice comment Veena…agree with you

This is the downside of having so many channels – they need to fill the time, so they resort to crap. As someone said, “500 channels and nothing’s on”
June 17, 2009 at 11:13 am |
Agree..sometimes our favorite pastime is “switching channels”…
June 17, 2009 at 3:13 pm |
Ha Ha Ha…. Even I was wondering about that wig thing. Will somebody tell him, he was looking better earlier?
Have linked this post to BB.
June 18, 2009 at 1:43 am |
@Cuckoo I am sure someone would have told him…

Vijay,
I completely agree with you. Our media and Indian cricket fans need to grow up and accept defeats gracefully. We can’t win always and its ok for our cricket team to have off days. I was disappointed to see the team’s early exit, but I accept Dhoni’s apology and wish the team well for future matches.
I came across your blog by accident, I must say I enjoyed reading it thoroughly and plan to vist often.
