I am ranting again … @#%$%^&^
Back from a day trip to Delhi. I think we need to do something about people using mobile phones on aircraft. Either that or force people to check in their mobile phones at the entrance to the plane (just like their jackets)… I mean its amazing that even after repeated announcements, phones are still ringing …. AND people are still talking while planes are taking off and landing… Can’t these people take a simple instruction? The Air Hostess almost throttled a guy yesterday and I dont blame her.
Heres a possible punishment.. if you dont switch off your mobile phone on the plane, then every passenger on the plane gets to slap you…. one quick one… whapp !!!

Some basic things most people never seem to learn or pretend not to learn.
Rajesh from LifeBeyondCode had once mentioned about people taking more blankets [http://blog.lifebeyondcode.com/2007/12/03/i-want-three-blankets/] when most people know that it is 1 blanket per passenger and may be short.
I think check-in phones at the entry should teach this basic lessons to those people. But then, that’s an overhead to the crew to collect and then return on exit, as pretty much everybody has a cell phone but not everyone wears the blazers.
as the saying goes “Common sense is not that common”

Kicking is the preferred form of punishment in Australia. Slapping is for girls (to do, we would also kick the females if they were using their mobile when they shouldn’t – that’s equality)

This is definitely very irritating….I just dont understand the reason for not following rules n regulations that are made.

Mobile “miscreants” the lot of them. Throw them out, while flying.

@ram: I have seen the “blanket collection” as well… and they create a scene if its refused…
@ray: Kicking? sure I could go for that.. in fact its a better idea… hmmm.. “Throw them out”… even better
@meghana: Its one of those “I am cool if I dont follow the rules…” things…

Wish we had a junk yard for those who refuse to follow rules !
They could then be recycled into socially – suitable THINGS.

“Educating the educated is quite difficult.”….
I recently bought Nokia 5310 and I was checking its features. It has something called ‘Flight mode’ which you can keep in while travelling in flight.. Its something like your phone is on offline mode but you could still use other features like games/organiser/calculator etc., and it doesn’t search for any operatore nor allows any Blue tooth facilities..!
Vijay, Do signals catch up fine on flight ? ‘Our network follows where ever you go’ – some service provider’s punch line alva?

Uff. In 2006 we were flying back from Delhi to Bangalore. There was some trouble with the aircraft engine and the a/c was not working. The amount of trouble the men put up was shocking. They were yelling at the air-hostesses, screaming at the poor pilots in the cockpit. Anywhere else in the world, they would be cooling their heels. They all looked like they held good jobs and were educated. Sigh. I really pitied the poor ladies who were bearing the brunt for no fault of theirs.
I see similar behavior when I fly. When they call for mothers with little babies to board, all the guys nuggafy into the plane. Sometimes I am embarrased in front of my sons who just watch all this with shock and awe!!!

@neel3: There is a junk yard.. its called prison
@veena: Its not a question of whether the signals catch… mobile phones keep sending homing signals continuously looking for a network… thats the reason why these signals could interfere with the navigation signals…
@my3:Good jobs do not guarantee culture

it is shame on the part of the people who do it . it happened when I visited delhi last time
the guy never listens and goes on talking these people dont have any sense of responsibility as there is every chance if something happens they are playing with the lives of others. airhostess was ver courteous and kept and asking him on her all rounds finally he switched and the moment it landed even before aircraft came to half he started same thing I dont think no way you can change their attitude. time may come you have to depost your switched off mobile before you collect your boarding pass. alas what a bad situation and all this done by educated lot please heed to the sensible requests at various places like onboard, inhospitals, temples, in music concerts conferences etc. etc.,

why dont aircraft use “Network Jammers”..this equipment radiate RF waves which doesn not intefere flight equipment but can jam the frequencies related to mobile phones. It is used in many public building in Europe today..Ofcourse it calls for some level of testing before it is put into aircraft but I am sure it sevres the purpose and kills these kind of irritations and disturbances

At PVR cinemas they show a small video clip stating “lets remove these aliens” (or something similar) The video shows a guy who keeps on talking on his mobile in the cinema hall and finally get vaporized!! .
This video works many times and I have seen ppl(atleast turning the cell to silent mode) swiching off their cells.
Talking about airplanes, these’ aliens’ sure doesnt care about his nor others lives, when it has been advised not to use cell phones, they do and they dont care.
LIke you said vijay give a slap !!!

@pranesh: As Veena says.. how do you educate the educated?
@Rajaram: Good question…maybe some of the navigation equipment operates at Mobile frequencies as well… dont know
@xylene: How about tazer guns for the air-hostess..you know the kind that sends a 20,000V shock… on another note.. have you observed people who dont keep their seat backs upright EVEN AFTER an announcement? Less dangerous but shows the same lack of respect for fellow passengers…
February 29, 2008 at 8:47 am |
Right, and thats why they have this flight mode which doesn’t send the signals to search their network..
and I was looking for a post about Union budget, your thoughts and rants :-0)
February 29, 2008 at 10:04 am |
@veena: no opinions on the budget. . Never got into it. .
February 29, 2008 at 6:09 pm |
@Vijay: regarding “dont keep their seat backs upright EVEN AFTER an announcement” –> I think it depends if it happens before take off or while landing. for most people first timers, their ears get blocked while descending after hours of air travel and it is possible that they did not hear the announcement. But for people who have travelled before, it is not an excuse.
about “union budget” — Oh it is budget time! it has been several years since I paid attention to it. I do remember waiting for a news paper after the budget announcement and go through all the things in favor/against – well it is mostly “what’s in it for me?” right?
March 1, 2008 at 12:31 am |
Well, I would just throw them out!!!!
March 1, 2008 at 2:47 am |
@ram: Ears blocked so much that you can’t hear?… but these people are not first timers… Yes the budget mela was yesterday.. so exciting
@DS: That seems to be the consensus…
