ANTHIMA NAMANA
See the picture above? Well this “still picture” was on the DD – National channel the whole of Tuesday evening. I first saw it when I switched on the telly at 7. I watched for several minutes waiting for the person to move before I realised that it was a still. The soundtrack was some poets sammelan. Came back to this channel around 8 (just to check). Same picture !! This time the background was of a soap. Just for the heck of it, checked again around 11… Same picture !!!! This time songs in the background.
This being the prime channel frequency, does anyone in DD actually monitor what they are transmitting? Another example of a shoddily run government outfit that often plays the “Dog in the Manger”.
A note on the picture. Even he doesn’t look very happy.

Ooops
Wrong publicity for DD.
They have just rolled out this favourite channel of the country on Mobile.
May god help those poor souls who UPGRADED their mobiles for this treatement.
Thankfully its only a testing time with DD and IPTV. Hopefully this practice of forgetting the viewers goes away

Chandana channel seems to be good, some program on sunday 6:30pm caught my attention one of those days, they were showing some good places around karnataka & the commentator was pretty good.

Veena: Is there a “definition” for TV at my home ?

February 14, 2007 at 12:30 pm |
Super Vijay!
yeah, as Veena pointed out, whenever some politician or leader died, for a week we had to endure drab music that was played without percussionists, and news would be telecast without signature tune with the already dull newscasters looking even more sombre, and with no other channel, those were the days the TV got a much deserved rest.
Bellur prakaara “Anthima Namana” caption kodi, you may win a prize in photgraphy contest!
February 14, 2007 at 12:34 pm |
Veena: Has it ever occured to you that it might be the other way around? (meaning that maybe Madam controls the equipment that is bought)
Mohan: Namdu BPO industry swamy

Inconvenience regretted message which keeps blinking alongwith the picture would fit
I remember that message in DD along with Ideega Dehalige with one kutubminar and parliament picture (80’s) we used to loose 5-10 mins of news becoz of confusion and suddenly see salma sultana giving samachaar….
Good post vijay, Antima Namana LOL:) i could hear Sarangi of sultan khan in the bacground
but all said and done, i am definitely amazed by the variety of programs DD used to cover in absentia of Cable in those days and how they were popular… RK notes it in nostalgia.
February 15, 2007 at 12:26 pm |
Usha,
What about “Rukaavat ke liye Khed Hai” during Chitrahaar?
February 15, 2007 at 7:51 pm |
LOL..this is funny !!!
On a different note though, I feel DD still produces ‘quality’ programs compared to the cheap serials on the other channels. And, what’s up with everyone crying and all the women being bad in the serials…hmmmmm…..
February 16, 2007 at 1:54 am |
Usha, Vani: LOL, I remember the Qutub Minar/Parliament pics…
DS: The last program I followed as far as hindi soaps go was Hum Log (also refferred to by us as Hum Gol (golu) ) way back in the ’80’s…
February 16, 2007 at 5:31 am |

Do you remember those live puri jagannat utsav ? I never used to like all that since they used to gulp all my sunday programs like vikram betal, micky donald, spiderman, famous 5 & a hindi feature film( raj babbar, anita, reena aakalla da movies adu)
February 16, 2007 at 5:48 am |
Ganga: The old post name was “Now I know why DD isn’t popular”.. I changed the name because DD could be confused with Dextrous Doings
February 17, 2007 at 6:53 pm |
Must have been a problem with your cable guy Vijay. Dont think DD transmission can be as bad. But as DS says above, few others have told me that DD produces quality programs even today.
